Are you the boss? Whether that means you are the hiring manager or someone above the hiring manager (maybe the owner), if you have a vested interest in the results of the hire, then you have a decision to make. That decision is to be involved or to stay out of it.
If you are the boss, either get deeply involved with the interview process–including being on the team–or else stay out of it.
If you don’t, what are you going to do except meddle? And send the signal that you don’t trust the team. (If you do trust the team, demonstrate that trust. If, in fact, you don’t trust the team, then get involved and lead/mentor them in interviewing and selecting/hiring so that you can trust them.)
Sometimes bosses want to be involved but don’t want to make the time commitment that the interview process takes. So they want to be briefed on everything, then second-guess the decision the team makes (based on second-hand information!) This is a good way to sabotage your team.
Don’t pop in and out of the process. Either commit to it, or stay out of it. If you are sometimes in and sometimes out, you mess up the team and it’s decisions.
